While Israeli dancers from Or Hadash headed to Vancouver, Canadian dancers from Montreal were plié-ing into Tel Aviv: I didn’t see the show, but reports from the field said that the Canadians could have done better. The Canadian ballet troupe Les Grands Ballets Canadiens De Montreal were in Tel Aviv last week, on June 1 and 2 as part of The Big Stage 20th anniversary celebrations at The Suzanne Dellal Center.

It could have been the slippery stage, points out one reviewer friend, who was a little disappointed about the show. I wouldn’t be surprised if the dancers were suffering from jet lag, a 7 hours time delay in the wrong direction when you come to Israel.

When in Tel Aviv, they performed two works: Noces by Stijn Celis and Cantata by Mauro Bigonzetti.

Noces, meaning “wedding ceremony,” reports the Jerusalem Post is a piece for 24 dancers set to Igor Stravinsky’s 1923 score.

It was the company’s first visit to Israel. They came to celebrate The Suzanne Dellal Center’s 20th anniversary.

For awesome pics from the night, check out the blog Midnight East, a rare treat and taste of Israeli culture through the eyes of people who are a part of it. Definitely something you should add to your RSS reader.
