Sorry for the pun, but it was just too easy.
Today’s Globe and Mail features an excellent article on the front page of the Life section about the high quality of kosher wines that are currently available in Canada.
Beppi Crosariol notes that kosher wine today is “not your bubbe’s usual fare,” suggesting fancy bottles to start off a seder such as the $109.95 Chateau Larrivet Baut-Brion Blanc (2006)!
He cites a number of reasons for the improved quality of kosher wine available over the past decade, including market pressure. But one of the big reasons, he notes, is the “General revolution in Israeli winemaking. Better vineyard sites, new capital investment and the rise of quality-minded boutique producers in Israel have all raised the kosher bar.”
Here’s a few Canadian websites we recommend for buying kosher wine:
- Yavin Canada
- Wines of Canada
- LCBO (Ontario)
- SAQ (Quebec)
- BC Liquor Stores (British Columbia)
- Kashruth Council of Canada’s Guide to Kosher Toronto
